Todd Gurley Still a Fantasy Star Despite Extension

Todd Gurley is a Hot Commodity in Fantasy Football

Todd Gurley just signed a four-year contract extension? Does that change his fantasy football stock for the 2018 season? Matt Camp breaks that situation and others down on Hardwick & Richards.

With the NFL season right around the corner, fantasy football drafts are beginning to start up as well. Often times, the best players to target in fantasy football are players that are entering their contract-year, as they would like to perform to the best of their abilities in order to achieve a massive pay day in the offseason. Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley was slated to enter his contract season this year, but the Rams and Gurley reached a four-year contract extension this week to lock the star runner in for the next five seasons.

The question that immediately popped into veteran fantasy football players minds was... How does this effect Todd Gurley's fantasy value? Sure, you can make a case that now he isn't going to be giving as much effort if he were entering his contract-year because he already got paid. Then, there is the logical side where he is coming off of the best year of his career and will now be on arguably one of the best offenses in the NFL as the centerpiece of that offense. The time is now for Gurley to lock himself in as the top fantasy player.

The Rams are returning 10 of their 11 starters from the 2017 season. The lone newcomer to the offense is wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who is much better than who he is replacing in Sammy Watkins. Gurley should have the opportunity to replicate his scoring from last year due to more attention being put on the passing game with the acquisition of Cooks.

Bleacher Report's Matt Camp joined Hardwick & Richards on Thursday and said that nothing should change regarding the value of Gurley, and that he remains in the upper-echelon of players off of the board.
