Greatest Sports Moment of the 20th Century Turns 40

It was called the "Miracle on Ice," when the U.S. Hockey team defeated the Soviet Union on February 22, at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Years later, Sports Illustrated deemed the event the Greatest Sports Moment of the 20th Century.

If you were alive at the time and watching the Olympic games, you were probably jumping up and down in your living room. It was the height of the Cold War, and watching the U.S. Olympic hockey team upset the Soviet Union was a very patriotic moment for America.

The game is best remembered for Al Michaels' famous call "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" as the clock ran out. Team USA would go on to win the gold by defeating Finland in the finals.
