In a multiplayer trade with the Washington Nationals, the Padres pull off massive deal hours before the major league trade deadline. Yahoo Sports' Hannah Keyser confirmed. MLB.com's Jon Morosi reported the deal.

With this trade, the San Diego Padres will be adding two of the best hitters in the majors creating an seemingly unstoppable lineup featuring Juan Soto, Manny Machado, and Fernando Tatis Jr.

On Monday, the Padres announced a trade to sign the Brewers' All-Star closer Josh Hader, and a 5-year extension for superstar pitcher and San Diego native, Joe Musgrove.

The Padres' deal will bring outfielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell from the Washington Nationals by trading top minor league prospects: shortstop CJ Abrams, left-hander MacKenzie Gore, outfielders Robert Hassell III and James Wood. Minor league pitcher Jarlin Susana, and baseman Eric Hosmer are also reported to be included in the deal.

One caveat to be noted by @JonMorosi, regarding the trade:

To be clear, the Juan Soto/Josh Bell blockbuster hinges on Eric Hosmer's permission for the deal to move forward. The #Nats are on his no-trade list. @MLBNetwork @MLB

At 23, Soto is already considered to be on of the best players in the major league. This season, he's batting .246/.408/.485 with 21 home runs to his credit.

Soto will become a free agent in the 2024 season.
