Manhattan District Attorney's Office Subpoenas Eight Years Of Trump's Taxes

President Trump Departs White House For Atlanta

The Manhattan District Attorney's office is trying to get its hands on President Donald Trump's tax returns as part of an investigation into hush-money payments that Trump made to two porn stars during the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election. The D.A.'s office issued a subpoena in August to Mazars USA, the accounting firm that handles the president's taxes, demanding tax returns for both the president and the Trump Organization dating back to 2011.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. has been looking into the payments to see if they violated New York law. According to the New York Times, investigators are combing through business records, trying to determine whether the company attempted to claim the reimbursements as a legal expense, which could be considered a violation of the law against filing false business records.

It is unclear if Mazars USA will comply with the subpoena. The accounting firm issued a brief statement saying they "will respect the legal process and fully comply with its legal obligations."

"We believe strongly in the ethical and professional rules and regulations that govern our industry, our work, and our client interactions. As a matter of firm policy and professional rules, we do not comment on the work we conduct for our clients," the firm said.
