24 hours later the city of San Diego and the baseball world is still talking about our beloved #19 Tony Gwynn...and talking with Bob Chandler..."We should". My favorite memory of Tony was when I traveled for 2.5-weeks with the Padres during their 1998 run to the World Series. Without a doubt my memory of being at Yankee Stadium and seeing Tony launch one off the façade at Yankee Stadium, "The House that Ruth Built"...classic. So many other memories have come to mind during my 12-years of covering Tony.
The hours of tape I have of Tony during post game interviews and his laugh. Stats got Tony into the Hall-of-Fame, his graciousness made him a champion in the human race. Thank you for the many memories...such as the day I'm sitting with Tony in the dugout hours before a game and he says, "Ernie...let me show you how to pine tar a bat" My response...."OK" HUGE SMILE I'm smiling and tearing up now. Thank you T-Gywnn!
